Biography

Carl joined Park in August 2021 as the School Librarian. Previous to Park, Carl worked for Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, as well as Buffalo and Erie County Public Library in a variety of roles, most recently as a Special Collections Librarian in the Grosvenor Room. Carl has a BA inHistory and MA in Public History from Duquesne University. He earned his MLIS from the University of Pittsburgh. Carl also served with AmeriCorps as the Regional Disaster Preparedness Lead for the American Red Cross in Northwest Arkansas during 2019.

Carl has cultivated his career of service through education and professional work in a variety of settings including public and academic libraries, bookmobiles, and archives. During his time with Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh Carl contributed to the organization of archival collections, initiated an oral history project about the West End of Pittsburgh, and performed outreach into the Allegheny County Jail. These experiences built upon his time at Duquesne University where he first worked with archival collections, oral histories, and incarcerated populations as a Masters student in Public History. At the University of Pittsburgh, Carl focused on Archives and Information Science to expand his knowledge of archival and special collection management. No matter where librarianship takes him, his goal is to connect library users to resources and services that enable lifelong learning.

An avid student himself, he presented research on Daoism to the Milton Pleasure Conference in March 2015.
